PART 1 — “WHY DID YOU CARRY THAT?”
Sofia could not take her eyes away from the strange body suit lying on the carpet.
A huge abdomen.
An artificial navel.
Folds of leather color material.
Empty.
No life.
And in front of her, Víctor Álvarez stood, without a shirt, exactly with the same face he had seen during all those months.
Only her body wasn't the one she thought she knew.
“Why were you wearing that?” Sophie asked.
Victor held his gaze.
There is something you don’t know about me yet.
I see that.
I'm not talking about my body.
Sofia took a step back.
The white dress grazed the carpet.
“Then talk.
Victor looked out the windows.
The city was shining behind him.
“Not tonight.
Sofia let out an unbelieving laugh.
“Not tonight?”
“You’re tired.
“I just married a man who was carrying a fake body under my clothes and you tell me I’m tired.
Victor clenched his jaw.
I'm still Victor.
“Really?”
"Yes.
“Then tell me one true thing.
Silence.
Why did you pretend to be physically different?
He watched her for several seconds.
Because he needed certain people to think he was vulnerable.
Sofia frowned.
What people?
The ones around you.
That answer hit her.
“Me?”
Victor did not answer.
Sofia pointed it out.
"No. Don't do that. Don't give me a mysterious phrase and expect me to accept it.
I don’t expect you to accept anything.
“Then explain yourself.
Victor took a black shirt that rested on a chair, but didn't put it on.
When I first met you, I knew you had financial problems.
Sofia stood still.
For the first time that night, the word debt appeared among them.
Who told you?
No one had to.
That’s not an answer.
Your debts were linked to several companies.
Legal companies.
In appearance.
Sofia felt cold.
What does that mean?
Victor walked one step.
“That not all the money you should have belonged to the people you believed.
I signed contracts.
"Yes.
I read them.
You read what they let you read.
Sofia denied.
"No.
“Sofía...
Don’t turn this into a story where you’re the only one who understands everything.
Victor lowered his voice.
-Okay.
He went to a drawer.
He pulled out a sealed envelope.
He placed it on the bed.
“Tomorrow you’re going to open this.
What's inside?
“The reason I approached you.
Sofia looked at him.
“And now I can’t open it?”
You can.
Then why do you say tomorrow?
Victor held his gaze.
“Because after reading it, you may not want to be my wife anymore.
