Breadstick Ingredients

Marinara Sauce

  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar, optional
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes, optional

Instructions

  1. Combine warm water, sugar, and yeast in a bowl. Let sit for 5 to 10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour, salt, and olive oil. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead for 5 to 7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise for about 1 hour.
  5. Preheat oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  6. Punch down dough, divide into 12 pieces, and roll each piece into a breadstick.
  7. Place breadsticks on the baking sheet and rest for 10 to 15 minutes.
  8. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until puffed and lightly golden.
  9. While breadsticks bake, heat olive oil in a small saucepan and cook garlic for 30 seconds.
  10. Add tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, sugar, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Simmer for 10 minutes.
