The executive boardroom was packed to maximum capacity. Every senior vice president, board member, and department head sat in grim silence around the massive quartz conference table.
When the double doors opened, all eyes snapped toward the entrance.
I walked in wearing a sharp, tailored navy pantsuit—no lace, no silk, no veil. My hair was loose and straight, falling sharply past my shoulders. The split on my lip was covered by a neat dab of concealer, but the determination in my eyes was unmistakable.
My father rolled in behind me, flanked by corporate security.
“Good morning, everyone,” I said, taking my seat at the head of the table. I didn't wait for pleasantries. I slid a fresh folder in front of each board member. “I called this emergency meeting to address a severe security breach and financial fraud within our executive ranks.”
Whispers immediately broke out.
Mark Jennings, the Head of Human Resources and one of Mason’s closest allies, cleared his throat nervously. “Claire, with all due respect, where is Mason? As Vice President of Acquisitions, he should be—'
“In a federal detention center,” I interrupted smoothly, cutting him off dead in his tracks.
The room went dead silent. Jennings’ face turned the color of chalk.
“Mr. Vance was arrested Saturday evening following our wedding reception,” I continued, my voice calm, clinical, and chillingly authoritative. “He has been formally charged with grand larceny, embezzlement totaling 1.8 million dollars, and industrial espionage in collusion with Vanguard Enterprises.”
Jennings slammed his hands on the table. “That’s impossible! Mason wouldn't—you have no proof!”
I pressed a button on the control panel embedded in the table. The massive projection screen behind me flickered to life, displaying high-resolution scans of the wire transfers, the fake vendor invoices, and the encrypted email correspondence with Richard Sterling.
“Page four, Mr. Jennings,” I said coldly. “That’s your signature approving the disbursement for Apex Global Solutions without secondary verification. Would you like to explain to the board why you bypassed protocol for your dear friend?”
Jennings stared at the screen, his mouth opening and closing soundlessly. He slumped back into his chair, the blood entirely draining from his face.
