“Your son must never see them.”
I stared at the photograph.
Then at Phedra.
“Who are they?”
She shook her head.
“I don’t know.”
I looked again at the man’s face.
Something about him felt familiar.
Not because I had met him.
Because I had seen his face somewhere before.
On a document.
In an old family photograph.
Maybe even in my childhood.
I couldn’t remember.
Then my phone vibrated.
A message had arrived from an unknown number.
I opened it.
There was no greeting.
No explanation.
Just one sentence:
STOP ASKING QUESTIONS ABOUT YOUR MOTHER’S ACCOUNT.
I stared at the screen.
Then another message arrived.
YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO KNOWS THE TRUTH.
I looked at Phedra.
She had seen my expression.
“What happened?”
I locked the phone.
“Nothing.”
But this time, I was lying to protect her.
I stood up.
“I need to make a call.”
“To whom?”
I looked toward the hospital window.
Outside, the city lights were beginning to appear.
I had come home believing I was rescuing my wife.
Now I realized something much bigger was waiting for me.
And whoever had sent that message knew exactly where I was.
They knew Phedra was alive.
They knew I had returned.
And most frightening of all…
They knew I had started looking at the money.
I called the only person I trusted enough to investigate without asking unnecessary questions.
My lawyer in Calgary.
When he answered, I said only one thing.
“I need you to activate the second part of the plan.”
There was a long silence.
Then he asked,
“Are you absolutely sure?”
I looked through the glass at Phedra lying weakly in the hospital bed.
“Yes.”
“Even though it means they may come after you?”
I closed my eyes.
“They already came after the person I love.”
I opened them again.
“Now it’s my turn.”
And for the first time since I stepped into that backyard…
I stopped being the husband who had returned home.
I became the man who had come back for the truth.
Absolutely. Here’s Part 3 as the final chapter, with the mystery resolved, the family’s greed exposed, and an emotional but satisfying ending.

PART 3 — THE TRAP
The next morning, I returned to the house alone.
Phedra was still in the hospital.
The doctors had started treatment, and for the first time in months, she had eaten an entire meal without someone telling her she was wasting food.
Before leaving her bedside, I kissed her forehead.
“I’ll be back.”
She held my hand.
“Damian, please be careful.”
“I will.”
She looked into my eyes.
“Don’t become like them.”
Her words stayed with me as I drove home.
I wasn’t going back to fight.
I wasn’t going back to scream.
I was going back to let them reveal themselves.
When I entered the house, Selina was sitting in the living room.
Godfrey was beside her.
