Husband Brought His Mistress and a Forged Document to My Maternity Ward Bed

“The pediatrician says he is perfectly fine,” I said, my voice dropping an octave as I watched her hand hover near my son’s blanket.

She did not touch him, instead running her manicured finger slowly along the seam of her designer bag.

“You should really ensure they are on a strict feeding schedule from day one,” Celeste said, looking up at me with a cold, smooth smile. “Adrian says you prefer a more intuitive approach, but routine is everything for infants of this size.”

“I am following the hospital guidelines, Celeste,” I said, keeping my eyes on her hands.

“Of course,” she said, her smile widening just enough to show the edges of her teeth. “New mothers are always so protective of their first.”

“Celeste helped me draft the restructuring proposal for the Lake Forest property this morning,” Adrian said, not turning around. “We need to clear the title hurdles before the Friday deadline.”

“The Lake Forest house is in my grandmother’s trust, Adrian,” I said, my voice quiet and very slow. “It does not have title hurdles.”

“Every property has hurdles when you are leveraging it for corporate credit, Evelyn,” Celeste said, her tone smooth and reasonable.
