“They do not know what he did to our bank accounts,” Lauren said. “But they are going to see the records. I have every statement from the last twelve months.”
“He told Grandma that you wanted to live in Canton to be closer to your sister,” Adam said, his voice dropping to a dry whisper. “He said you were the one who wanted the break.”
Lauren felt a familiar ache behind her eyes. She rubbed her temples, her fingers catching on her hair. “Your aunt lives in Toledo, Adam. That is three hours away. Your grandmother knows that.”
“She did not act like she knew it,” Adam said.
“I will talk to her,” Lauren said. “She needs to see the bank statements. Once she sees where the money went, she will understand.”
“He has more money than us,” Adam said, his voice flat. “He can buy whatever he wants. He has that new car.”
