Ryan stopped dead in his tracks. The silver tray on the cart wobbled, clattering loudly against the metal rails. His eyes took in the scene with terrifying clarity: the torn blue silk dress, the angry, welted crimson mark across Maggie’s collarbone, the trembling way she clutched her pregnant belly, and the pristine, unbothered composure of Elliot Chambers standing ten feet away.
For a heartbeat, the suite was dead silent.
Then Ryan’s face drained of color, replaced by a dark, murderous fury. He hadn’t liked Elliot from the day Maggie married him. He had suspected the tight control, the isolated trips, the subtle bruises hidden beneath long sleeves. But seeing it—breathing the same air as the man who was systematically destroying his sister and his unborn niece or nephew—erased every ounce of restraint Ryan possessed.
“Get away from her,” Ryan whispered, his voice shaking with venom.
Elliot’s smile didn’t drop. He maintained his towering posture, looking down his nose at the young hotel worker with aristocratic disdain. “You’re making a mistake, son. Drop the cart and leave. This is a private family matter.”
“Family?” Ryan roared.
Before Elliot could blink, Ryan lunged. He didn't use words; he used two decades of protective brotherly rage. He slammed his fist directly into Elliot’s jaw with a sickening crunch. The billionaire CEO staggered backward, his expensive veneer cracking instantly as he crashed into the mahogany desk, knocking over a crystal lamp that shattered across the marble floor.
“Ryan, stop!” Maggie screamed, dragging herself away from the wall, her hands locked over her stomach. “Don’t! You’ll lose your job! He’ll destroy you!”
Elliot spat a glob of blood onto the plush rug, his eyes widening in primal shock. No one had ever touched him. No rival executive, no board member, no disgruntled employee had ever laid a hand on Elliot Chambers.
“You son of a bitch,” Elliot snarled, wiping his lip with the back of his hand, his mask completely incinerated. He lunged back, his fists swinging with a blind, furious desperation.
The luxury suite instantly turned into a battlefield. Ryan, fueled by adrenaline and righteous fury, beat the CEO senseless. He pinned Elliot against the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Manhattan skyline, raining down blows until the billionaire’s expensive suit was stained with his own blood and his eyes rolled back in submission.
“Touch her again,” Ryan panted, his knuckles split and bleeding as he held Elliot by the collar against the glass, “and I won't just beat you. I’ll end you.”
The heavy mahogany door swung open behind them. Hotel security, alerted by the crashing lamp and muffled shouts, flooded the suite with batons drawn.
“Freeze! Put your hands where we can see them!”
Maggie screamed, crawling across the floor toward her brother as security guards grabbed Ryan, pinning him to the floor. Elliot slowly pushed himself up from the glass, wiping blood from his nose, his expression twisting into a look of pure, venomous malice.
“Arrest him,” Elliot whispered, his voice trembling with rage as he pointed a shaking finger at Ryan. “And call the police. I want him charged with attempted murder.”
